Footscray Milking Station

35 Bunbury St
Footscray, 3011
03 90299240

Looking for a funky new dog~friendly cafe and deli in the West to try for brunch? Look no further.....

This place is buzzing on the word-of-mouth scene. We have driven past a few times with the pugs, though leaving our run too late for outside tables. On this particular day, we timed our brunch perfectly and seized an outside table with radiant warmth thanks to a well-positioned gas heater;)

Cute as a button on a chilly winter's morning ;)

The cafe is positioned on the junction of two wide, umbrageous streets. It feels local in every sense, yet it appears, crowds are flocking in from neighbouring suburbs (and no doubt foodies from all over town too) to make up their own mind about the newest kid on the Western 'burb block.

Super coffee. Nothing else really to say on the matter. Super.

Ricotta Crepes

The crepes were insanely delectable. A lovely petite serve ~ savour every mouthful as the flavours are original and had us guessing every fork full;) Mint and maple married with ricotta, pecans and blueberries. Wow!

Baked Eggs

Take note of the begging paw......

Notice the hash brown with the baked eggs? Hash browns induce begging. Cute, sad, 'please just a little bit' eyes and the begging paw. Least they have doggy manners!

After brunch, we all cruised over to the park for a run. Check out the monster shadows!

muddy puddle paw planking. beat that ;)

We are the Sweetest Dogs...really!.....BRUNETTI!

194-204 Faraday St
Carlton Vic 3053
(03) 9347 2801

or

214 Flinders Lane
Melbourne VIC 3000
(03) 9663 8085

Off we go to Brunetti Carlton. Yum Yum Yum!

Brunetti is an institution. Any sweet tooth in Melbourne needs to pay a visit.

Brunetti Carlton

Brunetti City Square

We have visited the City Square cafe and the Carlton cafe with the dogs. Both have large alfresco areas and heaters. The City Square heaters are so warm you feel like you are sitting indoors which is a bonus over the cold winter months!

Whatever your guilty pleasures are we are sure Brunettis will provide!

The novelty of strolling a Brunetti counter, taking in all the desserts on offer, never wears off. If you are indecisive, go for the minitures and select 2-3 to try. You will not be disappointed!

Please please please!! You can't be serious?
You are going to eat them all by yourselves?

Oh. Sad face.
You were serious.

Their affogatos are something special & top off the dessert experience if you can handle another hit of cream & sugar & ice cream. YUM!

The affogato. All we can say is WOW ;)

There is no table service, so BYO water for the dogs. If you decide to visit the Carlton cafe you could always take your dogs for a stroll down Lygon St afterwards as some cafes along the strip have water bowls out the front.

This is only half the counter at Brunetti Carlton!

Both Brunetti Carlton and City Square are always bustling with lots of people constantly walking by. Gypsy and Poppet love all the stimulus! They were so well behaved and we are so lucky to have dogs with social etiquette. They happily chill near our table and look forward to all the pats that come their way by the new people they meet.

The pugs people watching ;)

What are your favourite desserts? Gypsy loves raspberries & carob. Poppet loves waiting for cake crumbles to fall! ;-)

Right.....off to the park to run all these calories off.....the humans might have to do extra laps around the oval with the pugs!

News Update! Brunetti café is moving back to its original home and will be located at 380 Lygon Street, Carlton sometime in 2012. We will be sure to check if the new premises are dog~ friendly!

Yarraville Pop-Up Park ;-)

Ballarat St
Yarraville

Gypsy & Poppet love Yarraville. It's a quirky little village full of character. Just when you think it couldn't get any more kitschy, the council introduce an initiative inspired by similar set ups in London, New York & San Fran. The POP-UP PARK!

Ballarat Street between Murray and Canterbury Streets in Yarraville has temporarily closed to traffic for 3 months to create a ‘pop-up park’. The park will open from 1 February until late April and traffic will not be allowed into this area. The park will consist of large planters, synthetic turf, tables, chairs and umbrellas to create a stimulating space in the heart of Yarraville Village for people to come together, relax and enjoy village life.

Traders, community groups and locals have the opportunity to participate by using the space to hold events, create art installations and other activities that will contribute to the activation of the park. If you have a great idea of something you would like to do or see in the space, let the council know! (http://www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au)

The project aims to:
Encourage community pride in public spaces
Reduce traffic and noise
Ease pedestrian movement around shops
Create a place for people - not cars
Increase public life in the village

The park will redefine the road as public space giving pedestrians the chance to enjoy the outdoors in the heart of an urban environment that was previously occupied by cars. Locals can drop by for a coffee, read a book, have lunch with friends or enjoy an ice-cream in the sun before a movie starts. In the future the materials could be re-used for the park to ‘pop-up’ again.

Queens Park ~ Moonee Ponds

Cnr Mt Alexander Road and Kellaway Avenue, Moonee Ponds

This park is centred around a large lake, which the dogs loved walking around. Since visiting the park & looking it up, we have read that the Moonee Valley Council prohibits dogs from being within 15 metres of any children’s playground, public barbeque, shared path or exercise equipment area. Therefore we would encourage you to check if this applies to the lakeside paths. We were not the only dogs there! It may only apply to off-leash dogs, but the council website was not specific. Considering there were dog bowls underneath water bubblers, we are confused!
Gypsy & Poppet met up with their friend Jessie.

Here is Jessie checking out the ducks!

Look! Ducks! Gypsy was very excited!

Jessie and Poppet hanging out at Queens Park!

Sisters walking and hugging at the same time!

Dog water bowl for after our adventurous walk ;)
