Our $1 conversation.....

If I got $1 everytime I had this conversation with people, then the Rescue Group we support ~ Saffron on the Hill ~ would never have to worry about paying vet bills ever again......

'Awwww......is that a hairy pug?'.........
'Yes'..........
''What's HE (grrrr) crossed with?'......
'A shihtzu'........
'I've never seen one of 'those' before'......
'Hopefully you won't see many more of them either'......
(pause....strange look at me)
'Why?'.....
'Because SHE is the product of a puppy farm establishment'
(more weird looks)

My darling scruff nut was meant to be with me, she is my baby girl, but to others she is an awareness campaign. I can never regret buying her, because as a result of creating this blog for her to encourage other dog owners to get out & about with their dogs, I became informed of breeding establishments and make opportunities each and every day to inform others.

I am an educator, and feel the urge to not sit with my knowledge, but share it. I could waste my energy asking myself why I didn't know before what I know now, or I can accept that everything happens for a reason and use what I now know to make a difference. If I change even just one person's perspective, then I have made some small, positive change.

Following Gypsy, we (my husband and I) spent months researching Rescue Groups and were fortunate enough to adopt Gypsy's darling bigger sister Poppet from Saffron on the Hill. Poppet was 4 years old when we adopted her and had only left a breeding establishment months prior. Most of those 4 years were spent in a cold, dark, soiled cage breeding for profit.

We have grown in awareness since adopting Poppet, and know that many people will opt for Rescue now, thanks to amazing awareness campaigns and the people driving them. Puppies, whether they be in Rescue or not, will always be the popular choice. I would urge anyone though, to consider how life changing it could be for all involved, to adopt a senior dog. Like Ernie, the beautiful 12 year old in yesterday's post.

We now understand and believe that adoption is the only ethical option for us as a family. We also support registered breeders though, who care deeply about the future of their breed, and desex their puppies before adopting them out. First and foremost, thanks to social media, we have come to understand just how many dogs are in Rescue. We will always encourage adoption first, as even those expressing a desire for a certain breed will in most cases,≥÷ find them in Rescue as a result of being saved from a breeding establishment, or surrendered as some people, are just not made for the commitment a dog deserves :(

We have spent much time with the seniors on the Hill, (www.thehill.org) and now understand how precious even a few happy months is to a senior dog. Seeing Poppet's mother who is 10 enjoy basking in the sun, cuddling up to all her pug family in front of the fire and the look of complete adoration shared between her and her Rescue Mama is nothing short of priceless.

Granny Giggles

There is something very beautiful about seeing an older dog learn love either again or for the first time. It is an absolute blessing to give this love and an even bigger blessing to receive it.

We hope you will appreciate our honesty and be compassionate to those who are unaware. The important action comes with people who are aware. What do they do with that knowledge?

Don't be silent about the things that matter........

Bert & Ernie up for Adoption!

We have found a cuter version of Bert & Ernie......

"Hey guys! Introducing the cuter version of ourselves!".......

Herbert

Ernie

Currently up for adoption are 'Herbert' and 'Ernie'. This 'Bert and Ernie' need forever homes who will love them as part of their family and give them the life they truly deserve.

No dog deserves to live out their days impounded or abandoned. Please support wonderful Rescue Groups such as Save-A-Dog Scheme Inc.

Save-A-Dog Scheme (SADS) is a community-based not-for-profit animal welfare organisation that saves hundreds of dogs and cats from being killed evey year. They have a no-kill philosophy and provide veterinary care to sick or injured animals so they can live out their natural lifespan.

If you would like further information about these beautiful dogs available for adoption, please visit their page.

“Guess the Era” Wedding Dress Parade & Devonshire Tea

2pm – 5pm
Saturday 18th August

3 Ashburn Grove, Ashburton
(behind the church)
Melway 60, D10

Our Pug Family are hosting a fun fundraiser event not to be missed!

Saffron on the Hill provides temporary (or in some cases permanent) care for neglected, abused and abandoned animals. All of our dogs stay in our care for as long as it takes to get them ready for adoption. Often our animals require substantial care whether it be physical, emotional or a combination of both.

“Guess the Era” Wedding Dress Parade & Devonshire Tea will be a fun afternoon; a perfect opportunity to get your girlfriends (or gorgeous guyfriends!) together for a catch up and have a laugh whilst supporting a wonderful cause. All monies raised will fund the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of our rescue dogs.

If you are a fan of Saffron on the Hill, you would've followed our courageous and beautiful British Bulldog Lilliput, who will be our star guest. Lilliput won over many hearts through her desire to be a pug ~ she is definitely the most popular pug-tryhard we know going around Rescue Groups ;) She is now in Foster Care, though will always remain close to her family of pugs on the Hill and often visits to see them all.

Another beautiful bulldog joining in wedding celebrations!

Make sure you come along to see Lilliput strut her stuff! She wants to show off the amazing results of her diet!!!!!

Tickets are $15 and must be pre-booked!

Contact event organiser Di on 0421 666 203 or admin@inkpanels.com.au

Please note: the beautiful black & white photographs of Lilliput were taken by the very talented Erin McNulty. If you would like your own personal copy, please visit her webpage for more information: http://www.erinmcnulty.com/category/dogs/bulldog/

Chicco ~ Seddon

77 Charles St
Seddon, 3011
ph (03) 9687 7194

We are so pleased with the fresh, new vibe of this café space in Seddon. The staff are down-to-earth, accommodating and friendly. The coat of white paint has brightened up this café, which really reflects the whole vibe of the new management and staff. It’s bright, funky and innovative ;)

This particular morning, we got up early to watch the Olympics. Our coffee and mocha did the trick to perk the humans up, but the pugs were still not happy! They love their sleep-ins, especially in winter!

Gypsy couldn’t even bring herself to look at the camera, let alone give us a smile!
Definitely not a morning pug!

I’m sleeeeeeepy! I want to go back to bed!

Whilst the pugs weren’t too happy with our early morning start, the humans accompanying them were more than content with their breakfast choice of eggs on the menu. With delights such as ‘beetroot relish’ and ‘minted eggplant’ alongside eggs, it was hard to steer away from these menu items. However, it must be noted, that if you are after something sweet, this café has a wonderful selection of cakes ;)

We requested our Free Range Eggs to be scrambled, and the chef was obliging. We were extremely happy with our friendly service, and were blessed with the rare, yet welcoming stream of sunshine that hit our table to keep us warm!

Have you ever seen these beautiful brown eyes so sad!
I will never wake them at 4:30am again! Grumpy!

We will definitely revisit Chicco, next time a little later so we are leaning more towards the ‘unch’ not the ‘br’ if you get our gist!  We have learnt our lesson, that our pugs do not do early mornings!

Till next time!
